Breastfeeding and Lactation support

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you come to my home?

Yes. I offer lactation consultant home visits across North Wales.

If you would prefer a virtual breastfeeding consultation, that is absolutely available too.

How much does a consultation cost?

Initial home consultation: £100 + 40p per mile travel
Follow-up consultation: £80 + travel

If you’re unsure about travel costs, just get in touch and I’ll confirm for your area.

Who can be there during the consultation?

Anyone you would like.

Partners and other support people are very welcome. If we are doing a virtual consultation, or if you have older siblings at home, having another adult present can be especially helpful.

What happens during a consultation?

Your session is personalised to you and your baby.

During the consultation I will:

  • Assess your feeding and positioning

  • Observe how your baby is latching and transferring milk

  • Assess your baby’s suck and oral anatomy

  • Explore how oral function may be affecting feeding

  • Provide a feeding plan if needed

  • Offer oral exercises to support your baby where appropriate

You can ask as many questions as you like — there are no silly questions.

We can move from room to room if you wish, helping you feel comfortable feeding wherever you choose.

Can I contact you after the consultation?

Yes. You are welcome to message with questions after your appointment. Ongoing support is included so you don’t feel alone while making changes.

Do you offer follow-up consultations?

Yes. Follow-up appointments are available at £80 + travel and can be helpful if you would like additional support or reassurance.

Should I avoid feeding my baby before you arrive?

It’s helpful if your baby is a little hungry when I arrive.

However, if your baby needs feeding beforehand, please feed them — responsive feeding always comes first.

Do I need to tidy my house or get dressed?

No. Please don’t worry about that at all.

You can stay in your pyjamas. I don’t expect a tidy house, a cup of tea, or anything other than you being comfortable. This is a judgement-free space.

What happens after the consultation?

Within a few hours, I will send you helpful links and resources to watch or read.

Within the next few days, you will receive a written summary of our time together. If a feeding plan is needed, this will usually be discussed and given to you during the consultation.

Is there anything I should prepare?

If possible, take a few short videos of your baby feeding — the start, middle and end of a feed.

This helps me show you exactly what I’m seeing and explain what may be happening.

You may also find it helpful to make notes of any questions you’d like to ask.

And remember — there are no silly questions.

Hypnobirthing Course in North Wales – Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re considering a hypnobirthing course in North Wales, you may have questions about who can attend, when to book, what’s included, and whether it’s right for you. Here’s everything you need to know.

Can my partner come?

Yes — absolutely.

I strongly encourage you to bring your birthing partner. This could be:

  • Your partner

  • Your mum

  • Your sister

  • Your doula

  • Or anyone who will be supporting you during pregnancy and birth

Hypnobirthing works best when your support person understands the techniques and their role in helping you feel calm, confident and supported.

Is the course in person or virtual?

The main hypnobirthing course runs as in-person group sessions in North Wales, usually on Sunday mornings.

If you would prefer a more personalised experience, one-to-one hypnobirthing courses are available either:

  • In person at your home (North Wales)

  • Or as a hybrid option

  • From what gestation can I attend?

  • There is no “too early”.

  • The techniques work best when you have time to practise and build muscle memory, so you can attend from around 20 weeks of pregnancy onwards.

  • Many parents find starting earlier helps them feel calmer and more confident throughout pregnancy — not just during birth.

  • In which language is the course delivered?

  • The slides are in English for ease and consistency.

  • However, discussions, activities and questions can be in Welsh or English, depending on what feels most comfortable for you.

  • How much does the hypnobirthing course cost?

  • The full course is £180.

  • This includes comprehensive birth preparation, practical techniques, relaxation tracks, and ongoing confidence-building tools for both you and your birth partner.

Is hypnobirthing only for home births or “whale music” births?

Not at all.

Hypnobirthing is for all types of birth, including:

  • Hospital births

  • Induced labour

  • Assisted births

  • Planned or unplanned caesarean births

The techniques are as much about pregnancy and mindset as they are about labour itself.

Hypnobirthing gives you tools to feel informed, calm and empowered — whatever path your birth takes.

What does the hypnobirthing course cover?

This is a comprehensive antenatal birth preparation course. We cover:

  • The full process of birth, with each stage explained clearly

  • What is happening in your body during labour

  • Practical techniques to support comfort and confidence

  • The science behind hypnobirthing

  • The birthing partner’s role during pregnancy, labour and beyond

  • Practising birthing positions

  • Empowerment tools you can start using immediately

  • Birth preferences planning

  • Pain relief options and medical interventions

  • The “golden hour” and early lactation

  • Relaxation tracks

  • Printable affirmation cards

  • Normal infant behaviour — what to expect and when

  • And much more

You’ll leave feeling informed, prepared and supported — not overwhelmed.
